At Mulberry School, we embrace a parent-cooperative model, allowing parents to actively participate in all aspects of the school’s operation. Parents can get involved in various ways, contributing their time, talents, and ideas through volunteer opportunities and fundraising events. Additionally, parents serve on the Board of Directors, which oversees the school’s affairs in collaboration with the Non-Profit Director. Each family is asked to contribute 35 parent hours (Time & Talent) during the academic year.

We hold parent meetings four times throughout the academic year, providing families with updates from staff and the Board of Directors. Time spent at these meetings counts toward a family’s volunteer hour total. (Childcare may be available during parent meetings for a nominal fee.)

Other Ways Parents Can Participate:

  • Volunteering during lunch hours
  • Chaperoning class field trips
  • Engaging in fundraising events (Read-A-Thon, Gala, 5K Race)
  • Coordinating annual events like the Halloween Celebration, Friendship Feast, Cultural Diversity Celebration, Field Day, and classroom parties
  • Purchasing kitchen supplies
  • Participating in school beautification and cleaning days
  • Assisting in classrooms
  • Organizing school library books

Sign-up sheets for volunteer opportunities are typically shared in a Google Doc and included weekly in our Meerkat newsletters. Immediate needs will be included in our Meerkat newsletters and messages/ emails to families.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities: Each hour of volunteer service is valued at $50. Families can opt to purchase supplies for the school as needed, with each $50 spent counting as one hour of service. Alternatively, any unfulfilled hours can be compensated for at this rate at the end of the school year.
